Frank Jones said he was excited to see all 625-plus people who showed up for the first OASIS event, held Nov. 1 at Woodridge Baptist Church in Mobile.
One of those was Bailey Hill, worship and kidz pastor at Chatom Baptist Church. He brought a group of senior adults, and he asked Jones if there was any way he might be able to meet Guy Penrod, one of the other hosts of the event who is best known for his 14 years as the lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band.
“I told him I’d do my best,” Jones said.
‘Meant the world’
Before the event, he tried to keep an eye out for when the two might be near each other so he could make that meeting happen, but it didn’t quite work out. Then when Penrod was on stage during his portion of the evening, Jones heard Penrod say, “Come on up here on the stage.”
Then he heard that guest introduce himself to Penrod as Bailey Hill.
“I was so excited that happened — I got out there and started taking pictures,” Jones said. “It meant the world to him. And it’s things like that that make this worth it.”
How to take part in OASIS
OASIS is an event tailored to seasoned adults that features Jones, Penrod and comedian Mickey Bell. They’re open to visiting any church that invites them.
The next event will be Dec. 1 at Indian Lake Peninsula Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
“If you are in that area, plan to load your church bus or van and bring a group for some great music, fun, singing, fellowship and so much more,” Jones said.
