This summer, I had an amazing time as an intern for The Alabama Baptist newspaper. Since I was reared from parents who read this newspaper, I was especially honored for the opportunity.
After graduating high school, my first job was working for my local newspaper as a photographer/intern, so I was familiar with how the journalism process works. This eventually opened the door for me to be a TAB correspondent for the last two years, and I continued to learn.

Most of my experience has been in photography, and I had opportunities to take many pictures as well as stock photos for TAB. However, I was somewhat “out of my comfort zone” with assignments to write articles. This was a new experience for me, since I was not used to interviewing people, then writing articles from the interviews.

Through this internship, I was able to represent my county and share local stories of nearby churches serving Christ. I made it my goal to share stories of inspiring people, groups and local events. I was hoping to influence TAB readers from other churches to share their faith and discover new ways to fellowship with one another.
Variety of topics
I reported about Vacation Bible Schools, a ladies’ book club and a church softball tournament. I also wrote a photography tips article to help church photographers take better pictures for their church’s social media and websites.
I was excited to see my favorite article, “A work worth doing” become a front-page feature story. It was incredible how it came together because it focused on the importance of churches to host VBS for kids. I hope it encouraged readers to continue planting seeds for the gospel. The Scripture reference from the Parable of the Sower was impactful to me.
I want to express my heartfelt appreciation and thanks to TAB Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Rash and the entire TAB team for providing me the opportunity to not only be a correspondent but also a summer intern.
The team members are positive and encouraging, and I am excited to continue working for the paper for the rest of the school term.
I am so grateful to work with Christians who share prayer requests and personal connections with teammates. They conclude their staff meetings by reading Scripture, sharing prayer requests and praise reports and praying together as a team. It meant a lot to experience this and to be included in their process.
