“May we always be a light to lost people and be a church that is pleasing to God.” Those were the words Virginia Jones closed with as she read the history of Flat Rock Baptist Church, Dawson, to the crowd present for its 150th anniversary celebration.
The two-day event, held Sept. 10–11, was a “small church, big celebration,” according to church leaders. A full house gathered for a singing on Saturday, and on Sunday, Pastor Nick Sharp gave a devotional about how in a church like Flat Rock, people are the bricks and Jesus is the mortar by which they are held together.
Lonette Berg (left in photo), executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented the church with a certificate to Sharp (right), as did Ken Allen, director of missions for DeKalb Baptist Association.
