Former Alabama Baptist pastor Steve Gaines announced this morning (Nov. 19) that he is being treated for kidney cancer, according to a report by Tennessee’s Baptist & Reflector.
Gaines, pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church near Memphis since 2005, said he has “a great team of doctors in Memphis who are treating me” but also asked for prayers for him, his wife, Donna, and their family.
He added that he plans to go to M.D. Anderson in Houston to consult with their physicians.
Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, shared, “I, along with many Alabama Baptists, are praying for pastor Steve Gaines and his family. He is much beloved by us and we are praying for the best of God’s blessings on him and his family during this important time of need.”
Gaines previously served as pastor of Gardendale First Baptist Church and also is a former Southern Baptist Convention president.
