Thaxton Marion Whiddon served in ministry for more than 58 years. He passed away Sept. 26, 2012, at the age of 83.
Whiddon, born in Houston County, attended Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham.
He was ordained to preach at Selma Baptist Church, Dothan, in 1953.
Whiddon served as pastor of several Alabama churches including Camp Springs Baptist Church, Columbia; Balkum Baptist Church, Headland; Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Leeds; Chalkhead Baptist Church, Ozark; and Taylor Baptist Church, Dothan, where he was serving at the time of his death. He also served as interim pastor at nine Alabama Baptist churches and as Columbia Baptist Association moderator.
Whiddon is preceded in death by his son, Kem Allen Whiddon, and survived by his wife, Bobbie; four children; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
