Former Escambia Director of Missions Ingram dies at 79

Former Escambia Baptist Association Director of Missions Evon Ingram died Dec. 4 in Atmore. He was 79.

A native of Magee, Miss., Ingram served the southwest Alabama association from 1954 to 1958 and had continued to work within the association since that time. The association also dedicated its 2001-2002 annual meeting book of reports to him for his years of service.

Ingram received his undergraduate degree for Mississippi College, Clinton, Miss., in 1944, and his master of theology degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1968.

Ordained in 1942, Ingram was director of missions in two Mississippi associations before moving to Atmore. He also served as pastor in churches in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.

During his 60 years in ministry, Ingram developed a love of books, collecting about 6,000 volumes.

Along with his wife, Gladys, Ingram is survived by two children, Elsa and Charles, and their spouses.
