Former missionary, pastor Jimmy Walker dies

 

Retired missionary and Alabama pastor Jimmy Walker died Jan. 22. He was 72.

Appointed to the missions field in 1962, he served alongside his wife, Charlotte Fulton Walker, in Malawi, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and Bophuthatswana (now part of South Africa) for 21 years.

Walker, a graduate of the University of Alabama and New Orleans Seminary, served as pastor of several Alabama churches including Beulah Baptist Church in Green County, First Baptist Church of Fayette and First Baptist Church of Atmore.

He was also interim pastor of several West Alabama churches, pastor of two Mississippi churches and associate director of missions for Tuscaloosa Association.

Walker also served Alabama Baptists by serving on the executive board of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, the board of governors of Judson College and numerous other state and associational ministries and committees.

He retired from the pastorate of Hopewell Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.

Walker is survived by his wife, four daughters and 10 grandchildren.
