Former Mississippi editor Guy Henderson dies

TUPELO, Miss. — W. Guy Henderson, 73, editor emeritus of The Baptist Record, died March 7 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo from complications following heart bypass surgery. Services were March 9 at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, with burial at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Clinton.

Henderson joined the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board in 1978 as a consultant in the stewardship department. In 1981, he was selected to serve as Mississippi Baptists’ director of evangelism, a post he held until his appointment as editor of The Baptist Record in 1990.

Henderson retired in 1996 but remained active in Mississippi Baptist life as an interim pastor, supply preacher and speaker.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Henderson is survived by a son, Rex Henderson of Webster, Mass.; three daughters, Melinda Kyzar of Moscow, Russia, Patricia Pardue of Terry, Miss., and Angela McWhirter of Tupelo, Miss.; and eight grandchildren.
