Former TAB board chairman dies

Herman L. “Bubba” Scott, former chairman of the board for The Alabama Baptist, died March 11. He was 84.

Scott served in the Navy after high school and graduated from Troy State University (now Troy University). 

He was head football coach at Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham from 1963 to 1965 and executive director for the Alabama High School Athletic Association from 1966 to 1991.

Scott served as the state Baptist paper’s board chairman from 1998 to 2001 and was a member of First Baptist Church, Montgomery.

“Bubba was an extraordinarily disciplined follower of Jesus Christ, and he made a massive difference for the Lord and countless young lives,” said Jay Wolf, pastor of First, Montgomery. “He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.”

Scott was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dot.

He is survived by two sons, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
