ABUJA, Nigeria — Four Christian farmers were injured in an armed attack while working their land, and a Christian church was set afire for the second time in 10 years.
A group consisting mostly of Muslim Fulani herdsmen attacked three Christian farmers Aug. 6 as they did their work, report media outlets Christian Daily International and Morning Star News. A fourth Christian farmer was wounded while fleeing.
Armed with guns, machetes
Sources said about 20 assailants armed with guns and machetes perpetrated the attack in Lwa village in Nigeria’s Plateau state.
On Aug. 10 in the Nigerian state of Niger, Muslims are believed to have burned the worship auditorium of Redeemed Christian Church of God in Kontagora town. The property was also looted.
Samson Ogbebor, associate pastor of the church, said Muslims destroyed the auditorium a decade ago under similar circumstances.
Nigeria is No. 6 on Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian. It has led the world in the number of Christians kidnapped or killed for their faith. Nigeria also has ranked third in the world for the number of attacks upon buildings of Christian entities such as churches, schools and hospitals.
