Freeman, Jack Rodgers

Jack Rodgers Freeman, a pastor in Alabama churches for 40 years, died March 6.

Freeman was 64 and was the pastor of West Highlands Baptist Church, Athens.

Freeman served as pastor of Hillsboro Baptist Church, Hillsboro; Robinwood Baptist Church, Birmingham; Lincoln Memorial Baptist Church, Huntsville; Shady Grove Baptist Church, Hartselle; and Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Decatur.

He spent five years in evangelism. His widow, Peggy Corum Freeman, Said Freeman also served in several interim positions during that time.

Freeman attended Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and BBI College in Florida but did not graduate from either school.

He earned a degree in ministerial work from Athens College in Athens. He also attended classes at New Orleans Seminary.

Peggy Corum said her husband’s greatest strength was his people skills.

“He was a soul winner,” she said. “He enjoyed visiting in the homes.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and one brother. (TAB)
