Daniel Atkins, pastor of Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, announced today (July 18) his intentions to nominate Mat Alexander, pastor of First Baptist Church Gadsden, as second vice president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
The convention’s annual meeting will take place Nov. 11–12 at Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, and the election of officers will take place during the meeting.
Current state convention officers are: president, Craig Carlisle of Gadsden; first vice president, Jarman Leatherwood of Huntsville; and Ryan Whitley of Trussville. Each are serving their second one-year term, which is the limit of service per officer position.
Announcements have not been made yet whether Leatherwood will be nominated for president and/or if Whitley will be nominated for either first vice president or president. The Alabama Baptist will provide updates when that information becomes available as well as announcements related to potential additional nominees for all three positions.
