Jessie Garrison has worked in Bible Drill for 30 years. She has been the children’s Bible Drill leader at St. Clair Baptist Association for three years.
Q: What led you to work with Bible Drill?
A: I started out doing Bible Drill when I was 14 years old. We called it Sword Drill. The first time I had ever seen a pamphlet to get children prepared for the state Bible Drill was 30 years ago. My son was in it in the sixth grade, and he was my first participant. My grandchildren are involved in Bible Drill now.
Q: Why have you continued in Bible Drill?
A: I love it. I love to memorize Scripture.
Q: What do you get from it?
A: It’s very rewarding. These kids that learn these verses let God’s Word get in their hearts and it stays with them.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I’ll be 65 in March. I don’t know how much longer I will do this countywide, but as long as I can do my own church and my grandchildren, I will continue. I’m going to do it as long as God allows me.
Q: What difference will this make for you in the future?
A: It increases my faith. Being a widow, it certainly draws me closer to God. It is my strength.
