Christian George is a third-year master of divinity student at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School and is president of the Beeson student body. The 24-year-old also teaches a continuing education writing course. This summer, he released his first published book called “Charles Spurgeon: The Prince of Preachers.” He will publish a second book, “Sacred Travels: Recovering the Ancient Practice of Pilgrimage,” in January.
Q: What led you to write?
A: I felt a passion on my heart to write. I felt that the church is in need of good theological writings from younger evangelical voices, and I’m trying to fulfill my calling as a Christian in this area.
Q: Describe your books.
A: Charles Spurgeon has been a hero of mine in the faith, and I wanted to expose his life and legacy to teenagers. “Sacred Travels” is about pilgrimage. It’s also about the Christian’s journey to God, and where we practice pilgrimage, we are tangibly representing that journey. It’s also a book about how God calls us to be aliens and pilgrims in this world.
Q: What does writing demand?
A: Prayer, solitude, dedication.
Q: What are the rewards?
A: I get a deeper understanding into the Christian life and also a deeper understanding of the sovereign God who has called me to be His servant.
Q: How do your family members support you?
A: They are wonderful encouragements. I have a wonderful wife who, outside of Christ’s atoning work, is the greatest gift that God has given me. My father, mother, sister and in-laws have been godly examples to me.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I see myself called to a ministry of teaching, preaching, writing and supporting the universal body of Christ.
