Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Georgiana, celebrated its 125th anniversary Aug. 18.
During the 10 a.m. service the Butler Baptist Association church remembered the past during a PowerPoint presentation of its history. Photos of the church from 125 years ago up until today were featured.
People who were connected to the church in the past were invited to speak about their memories, and the worship service followed a special singing.
A representative from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented Mount Pleasant Baptist with a plaque, and a document from the governor congratulating the church also was presented.
Lunch was served afterward, and about 150 people attended the service, according to Pastor Wayne Davis. He added that people said it was the best homecoming they had ever experienced.
Looking to the future of Mount Pleasant, Davis said, “We just preach the Word and love each other — keep it simple and love the Lord.”
