Georgia’s Fossett also in mix for SBC 2nd VP

NASHVILLE — Brian Fossett, a vocational evangelist from Dalton, Ga., will be nominated for second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), a pastor in Snellville, Ga., announced April 28. Rusty Newman, pastor of First Baptist Church, Snellville, said he will nominate Fossett for the post during the SBC’s June 10–11 meeting in Indianapolis.

Fossett is president of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists and immediate past president of the Conference of Georgia Baptist Evangelists. A member of Liberty Baptist Church in Dalton, Fossett has served as a member of the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) National Evangelism Strategy Taskforce. He has served in America’s inner cities as part of NAMB’s Intentional Community Evangelism team. Information from the 2007 Annual Church Profile for Liberty Baptist Church lists 21 baptisms and primary worship service attendance of 417. The church gave $57,405, or 10 percent, through the Cooperative Program from total undesignated receipts of $575,760.
