Getting to know God through personal walk

Getting to know God through personal walk

My plan was to petition God for those things in my life I needed. To be honest, I didn’t quite know what they were, but as most of us I had my list. As much as I could, I mentioned them one by one. The responsibility was His to ease my anxiety.

No, this is not the first time I have done this in my life. Telling God what we need seems to be a favorite pastime for people who often never stop long enough to listen to the still small voice of God as He instructs us how to grow in grace. We pray for our “wants.” He wants to give us life.

Are you asking for what you think you need, or is there abandonment in your life to God? When you spend the time you should with god in an intimate way, you will find the things God knows you have need of. It is all about getting to know God.

‘Ray of light’

I was thanking God for a small ray of light in my life and asking for more. He wanted me to stay sill long enough for Him to become a better friend. Being exposed to the light is what I am talking about. My prayer without apologies is to know God in a deeper way.

Someone said to me recently, “I can’t believe you still are the same person you were when you lived here years ago. You still like church, don’t you? I would go crazy if I had to be a t church all the time.”

Because I loved this person, I took what she said has her way of showing love to me and her desire I would have “more fun” in my life.

Dear friends, I hope I am not the same person I was when we lived in Opelika before. If a person does not mature in his or her faith as the years go by, then something is wrong in his or her spiritual life. I am having fun and in the best way. Perhaps you would not call it fun but rather a significant quality of life.

My walk with God is not about church. The more I learn of God and His grace and His power to free us from all that would enslave wanting to give something back to Him is just part of life. Being at church and availing myself of certain things is just a way of life for me. I am too weak to get through life by myself.

Funny thing about God – if I am still long enough, He shows me what I need in my life. I pray for no pain, and he does not take the pain away but gives me strength to take one day at a time and depend on Him more. As I experienced this pain, I am better able to see within the lives of others. One thing I have found in life is that the only way to get through some things is just to go through them. Our feelings may not be what we desire, but light comes, perhaps not all at once, but it does come little by little.

We pray for joy, and God wants us to spend more time with Him.

We pray for the storms of life to pass, and God wants us to keep on facing the darkness and get to know him better through His power as we do not faint as we walk with Him.

The entry that day after day Columbus put down in the private log of his first voyage across the unchartered North Atlantic was, “This day we sailed on Course WSW.” He must have written it in a spirit alternating between blind hope ad quiet despair. Conditions were about as adverse as possible, but with dogged courage he kept on going.

During times of distress, doubt and weariness we can be inspired by the words of the great navigator, “This day we sail on.” No storm can defeat us if we find out what God is trying to do in our lives. At times I wish His concern was to make me blessed and happy at this point in life. How wonderful that would be. But I am not God, and my ways are not His ways. I pray for peace in my life, and he wants to give me His life.

There are many who doubt, not that there is a God or that there is a Bible, but that there is no way to have a personal relationship with God. The best step toward the life of faith is for us to give the One who created us the opportunity to give us in the time of darkness an opportunity to walk in faith and not be feeling. What we want may not be the best thing. God answers in mysterious ways.
