When the youth of Faith Baptist Church, Fairhope, in Baldwin Baptist Association needed money for a spring break missions trip, they decided to go golfing. On March 24, about 75 golfers gathered at Rock Creek Golf Club in Fairhope to play 18 holes with a purpose. As a result, $6,000 was raised for the youth group’s trip to Costa Rica April 13–21.
The tournament money helps pay for construction materials and travel costs as the group of 21 students and four adults — led by student minister Lee Fruh — does light construction work in churches there. Parent and chaperone Michele Carter said the group is also spending a day speaking to students in schools in Nicaragua, sharing Christ through testimonies, songs with interpretive movement and Spanish worship songs. Because of the good participation, the church, led by Pastor Tim Patrick, hopes to make the tournament an annual event, Carter said.
