With Jesus Christ … Saviour, Lord, Coming King as the theme of the 2006 Pastors Conference, John Killian said he hopes the day will be nothing but Christ-centered.
Killian, president of this year’s conference and pastor of Maytown Baptist Church in Bessemer Baptist Association, said conference leaders hope the day will “focus on exalting Jesus Christ” with an emphasis on Philippians 2:5–11.
“I hope pastors will come away from the conference with a zeal for proclaiming the message of Christ and that the conference will provide encouragement for scriptural unity among pastors,” he said.
The daylong event, set for Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m.–9 p.m., will be held at Gardendale’s First Baptist Church in North Jefferson Baptist Association.
Kevin Hamm, pastor of Gardendale’s First, said it is the church’s privilege to host the conference.
“It will be a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and for pastors to love and pray for one another,” he said. “Our church family as a whole is looking forward to hearing what God is doing across the state.”
The choir of Gardendale’s First will provide special music during the evening session, and Brad White of Bradford White Ministries in Memphis, Tenn., will lead worship throughout the day.
A number of speakers will deliver messages on the conference theme. They are, in order of appearance:
• John Croyle, founder and executive director of Big Oak Ranch in Springville.
• Jay Robertson, assistant professor of Christian studies at the University of Mobile.
• Jeff Myers, president of Myers Institute for Communication and Leadership in Dayton, Tenn.
• Larry Draper, an evangelist from Rome, Ga.
• Ken Ham, founder and president/chief executive officer of Answers in Genesis in Petersburg, Ky.
• Paige Patterson, president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
• Roger Willmore, pastor of Deerfoot Baptist Church, Trussville.
• Johnny Hunt, pastor of First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Ga.
The diversity of the lineup was intended for no other reason than for pastors to hear the theme expounded upon from a variety of perspectives, Killian said.
“My hope is that pastors will leave revived and encouraged from a good diet of solid, biblical preaching,” he said.
In addition to the speakers, 11 Alabama Baptist pastors will pray at different points throughout the program, allowing pastors to hear from more of their fellow leaders in the state.
“We will also be offering a chance for those who attend the conference to register for the state convention annual meeting while they are there,” Killian said. “We hope this will encourage them to attend the convention meeting as well as the Pastors Conference.”
Pastors and others attending the conference are encouraged to attend a noon luncheon at Gardendale’s First on the day of the conference.
Patterson is the speaker and the meal is free to anyone who presents a messenger card, indicating that he or she has registered for the annual meeting, which starts the next day at Hunter Street Baptist Church, Hoover, in Birmingham Baptist Association.
