Teresa Gore has been the youth leader at Keener Baptist Church for two years. She has raised youth membership from five to 25 during her time there.

Q: What influences in your life pointed you to Christ at the beginning of your faith journey?

A: I became a Christian when I was 12 but I never developed a true relationship until I was 27. It is a daily open relationship learning about Him. When we are young we say the prayer but we never follow up.

Q: When and how were you led into your ministry work?

A: In 1997 I began a true relationship with Jesus. [My husband and I] were really active with the young couples in our church … When my husband got out of seminary I assisted him and did youth work. When I came to Keener they didn’t have a youth leader. Now two years later they are my joy. It’s where God wants me right now.

Q: What does the ministry demand?

A: To me it’s nothing more than time. I think we become complacent when there’s so much work to be done. You don’t do it out of obligation; it’s your life. I wouldn’t know how else to do life.

Q: How do family members support you?

A: We all support each other. Everything we do with the youth, we do together. They support me just by being themselves.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?

A: Always working in the church regardless of whether my husband is pastor or not. I’ll hopefully be serving somehow.
