Gossip an issue with Americans

Sixty-nine percent of American adults say gossiping is a problem in schools, according to a recent poll by Luntz/Laszlo that was commissioned by WordsCanHeal.org.

Those polled say it is a problem in other places as well:

In the workplace: 79 percent

In U.S. politics: 80 percent

In news media reports: 84 percent

88 percent of Americans say it is important to reduce gossip and verbal abuse in schools, places of work and within families.

41 percent of Americans say they listen to or share gossip about other people at least once or twice a week.

25 percent of Americans say they never say anything about people behind their backs that they later regret.

13 percent of Americans say that no one ever says anything hurtful about them behind their backs.

The poll of 800 adults conducted had a margin or error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
