Grandma’s Christmas Legacy: The Testimony of the Tree

Grandma’s Christmas Legacy: The Testimony of the Tree

Casey Schutrop. Chaska, Minn.: WOW Ministries, 2009 (Re-released for 2012). 48 pp. (Gift Book).

This little gift book is really a “book within a book,” offering first the story of Grandma’s legacy, then turning to the reader and asking pointedly what the reader will do with the story.

The legacy from Grandma is a story of a family who gathers to decorate the tree the first Christmas after Grandma’s death and finds a story Grandma left, investing special meaning in what may be the most frequently utilized symbol of Christmas, weaving the fruit of the Spirit into the narrative of the decorations to be placed on the tree.

Grandma’s story then becomes the reader’s own story, presenting an interactive experience that can be used by families as they celebrate Christmas together. The closing pages of the book present the biblical account of the Christmas story and a read-along version of Grandma’s story.

The book is meticulously and beautifully illustrated and is sure to be a welcome gift for almost anyone.
