One of the genres in the grand spectrum of contemporary Christian music that is traditionally more susceptible to secular eye rolls is rap and hip-hop. But since the mid-’90s, and especially since the release of their incredible “Art of Translation” in 2002, GRITS — Grammatical Revolution In The Spirit — have been the vaccine. Quite simply, members Coffee and Bonafide are the Rodgers and Hammerstein of hip-hop innovation, rivaling the beat-ability of OutKast’s Big Boi and Andre 3000.

Any question of the group’s creativity will be answered in just one listen of “Reminds Me,” track six on its latest opus, “Reiterate,” which opens up with a “Welcome to the breakfast club … we lightin’ 16 candles on this one” and blasts through four synthesized minutes of ’80s bliss — this from a rap group — and cerebral, Christ-centered rhymes. GRITS remain delicious.
