While there, the Friendship Baptist missions teams lead different ministries in the city. Volunteers also help with construction projects, in medical clinics and with food and clothing distributions. Missions teams work with churches in the area and even helped start one church, Turrentine noted.
Another Alabama team headed to the missions house in March is a group from the Baptist Campus Ministries at the University of South Alabama in Mobile.

When Alabama Baptists decided to launch their current partnership with Guatemala Baptists, it only broadened the ministry that was already taking place at Friendship Baptist Church, Grand Bay, in Mobile Baptist Association.
A focus of Friendship Baptist’s ministry since 1998, Guatemala has been a particularly special place since church members built a missions house in the city of Chimaltenango in 2002.
"The Lord wanted us to be a part of missions," said Friendship Pastor Teddie Turrentine.
Named after former pastor L.G. Camp Jr., who died in 1966, the house was built to accommodate the increasing number of volunteers going on missions trips to the area, Turrentine said.
Sitting atop a hill about 25 miles west of Guatemala City, the eight-bedroom house sleeps up to 40 people. Friendship Baptist volunteers travel to the area and stay in the house more than five times each year, Turrentine said, noting that missions volunteers from across the United States and Canada stay in the house frequently.
