The first song of Guy Penrod’s post-Gaither Vocal Band (GVB) solo career gets real sentimental real fast about sitting in matching rocking chairs with his wife and driving the kids to Dairy Queen.

So yes, “Breathe Deep” is a good country record (ready for radio if given half a chance). But it’s one that fans of the GVB sound Penrod helped shape for 14 years should be able to embrace as enthusiastically as Penrod himself. The hair, the smile and the voice are all still there.
