So let me get this straight, we are to forget all of that utter nonsense that the Apostle Paul wrote about not being able to drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons (1 Cor. 10:21). We can, in fact, drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons because people have now come to our aid by writing editorials and books and hosting radio talk commentaries to show us how. All we need to do is follow their advice and example. We can have Harry Potter Bible study groups in our homes and take scriptural truths handed down to us by the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, the God Who is a Consuming Fire, and tie them in with this latest pop culture handed down to us from J.K. Rowling. Evil can and should be mixed in with the Holy concepts of Christianity because pearls in pigpens greatly enhance the beauty of pigpens.
So since the characters in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, according to Colson, “demonstrate courage, loyalty and a willingness to sacrifice for one another,” are they to be our new spiritual leaders? Is this not a dance with deception? Even atheists are capable of doing good deeds, and there is a certain honor among thieves. Is this what we are to go by, these half-truths?
