One of Sims’ primary responsibilities is to visit people in hospitals, homes and nursing homes, a task he said he loves to do. “My prayer every night (is) ‘When I wake up down here I’ll do my best to serve You,’” he said.
Q: What influences in your life pointed you to Christ at the beginning of your faith journey?
A: I would think my mother, number one. … Then I had … several godly pastors, but one in particular that I would give a great degree of my success to was T.A. Duke.
Q: When and how were you led into the ministry?
A: I didn’t have much of a choice. The Lord just would not let me go. Primarily I love people. I … worked at U.S. Steel for 40 years and during that time I was bivocational.
Q: What do you get from serving in ministry?
A: I enjoy the valleys and mountains in ministry, and I know God said He’d never leave me or forsake me. … All I want … is to be a blessing to Him and to others.
Q: How do family members support you in this work?
A: Every way that they possibly can. They are completely supportive. My wife was (supportive) and all three children are. I’ve been blessed beyond my imagination.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this work in the future?
A: Till my last breath. I don’t intend to stop.
