Members of Hatchett Creek Baptist Church, Talladega, have targeted area youth as a high priority in their evangelistic efforts.
“We’ve got a lot of stuff in the works,” said Steve Mitchell, pastor of Hatchett Creek. “There are many youth in the community that aren’t churched. We’re trying to reach them and show them we can have fun and still praise God.”
In one recent effort, Hatchett Creek members partnered with nearby Springhill Baptist Church to host a youth rally.
“It was the first, I hope, of many,” Mitchell said. “We’re going to try to do more with Springhill and other churches in the area to reach out and show the youth we care about them.”
About 30 youth and adults attended the evening rally in Carey Baptist Association that featured songs by choirs from both churches, as well as a message from Scottie Craft, a member of Springhill. A drama team from Springhill also performed.
Tony and Janet Hill are the youth directors at Springhill Baptist. “We’ve been trying to do more with other youth groups so that [our youth] could develop some Christian friends,” Janet Hill said.
