Arkansas
Several Southern Baptist churches support the work of Renewal Ranch, a Christian drug abuse prevention and recovery program in Conway, Arkansas. Renewal Ranch, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, has a 60% long-term success rate among its approximately 350 graduates, compared to about 4–5% among treatment centers that are not Bible-focused, Renewal Ranch Executive Director James Loy said. “I’ve seen God’s work in Renewal Ranch, and so I’ll do everything I can to help them,” said Larry White, senior pastor of Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway.
Florida
Family Church in Port St. Lucie, Florida, is one of seven Florida Baptist congregations that supports Care Net Pregnancy Services of the Treasure Coast, which recently added a third pregnancy center in an underserved location of the Port St. Lucie community. The church connected Care Net with Southern Baptists’ Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which provided an ultrasound machine, valued between $25,000 and $30,000, for the newest pregnancy facility, the Florida Baptist Witness reported.
Kentucky
The Western Recorder, the 195-year-old Kentucky Baptist news publication, will cease regular publication after the March 2021 issue, Kentucky Today reported. Several regular features from the Western Recorder will be published on the Kentucky Today website.
Louisiana
University Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, escaped the brunt of Hurricane Laura’s wrath in 2020 and has opened its doors to three other congregations that were not spared. Each Sunday, University Baptist Church opens its facilities to three other Lake Charles churches: Emmanuel Baptist and its Hispanic mission, as well as Calvary Baptist Church. The church also hosts services by Johnson Funeral Home, which was demolished by the hurricane, the Baptist Message reported.
Mississippi
Mississippi College students are gearing up for participation in the April 8 Dance Marathon to benefit the Children’s of Mississippi Hospital, the state’s only children’s hospital. The six-hour event will raise money and awareness for the hospital that treats about 150,000 children annually. Since the launch of the Dance Marathon in 2016, Mississippi College students have raised close to $150,000. Organizers hope that 500 students will participate in the 2021 Dance Marathon.
