Hearts of Saints
Revolution Art
The self-titled re-debut of Hearts of Saints, formerly Special D., is a more than competent take of what the band terms “dance rock.” While it’s nothing new, it’s nothing bad, either. Though heavily layered, the record isn’t overproduced, allowing a fuller appreciation of the band’s various influences, which combine, at least to this reviewer, as something with a little more depth and even energy than what most would call pop-rock. “The Secret” sounds like the Newsboys covering a U2 song, much of “Monster” brings Jimmy Eat World to mind, and Craig Felkers’ vocals stretch with the same tension that have made Chris Daughtry’s so distinguishable. Keep it up.
