Help the Children

I am writing with a heavy heart about the children of our state. We have major issues in our state with education and the homeless children. We need role models from the Christian community helping children with single parent homes.

I have been a child advocate for many years on behalf of foster children in our state. Foster parents have tried all year to bring awareness to the needs of our homeless children. It has yet to be seen if our state leaders will do anything for our foster children.

I personally have seen nothing for foster children, only empty promises. We have been promised a living increase for our children. … But the money is being held back for rainy days and to supply interest for the general fund. We feel our state leaders want to allow our children just enough money to look like they have really done something for them.

We will be the last-ranked state in the United States on foster care. We have had many leaders lend their support, but no firm commitment in helping us in getting our children’s needs met. They deserve to live above the poverty level.

After all, the State Department is the one who took the children from their birth families to protect them.

Foster families’ morale is at an all time low. We feel our children and foster parents are just an added problem to the administration.

Some of our foster children get the support they need with different agencies, but the major population of more than 4,700 homeless children depend on the government to supply their needs.

In the past, the communities took care of orphans and widows, with society in the past years the public will be good about giving money, but the me, myself and I have been forefront in their lives.

I ask on behalf of the homeless Alabama children, please let our administration know our children matter the most.

Anyone can contact our state leaders either on the Internet at “Alabama Information,” “government” or by calling the governor’s office at 334-242-7100.

It is time we as Christians do what we can to help. God called all of us to do something for Him. Not everyone is called into foster care, but we all can express the needs of our most precious gift.

After all, God said, “To the least of these.” We are held accountable.
