High Pine holds 7th annual Christmas program

High Pine Baptist Church, Roanoke, in Randolph Baptist Association held its 7th annual musical Christmas program, “A High Pine Christmas,” on Dec. 14.

Led by music minister Scott Brand, the program is two-fold with the first half featuring Christmas songs that tell of the birth of Christ such as “Silent Night, Holy Night.” The second half of the program features secular, classic Christmas songs such as “White Christmas” and concludes with an appearance by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Narration and solos are intermixed with the choir’s performance.

Brand got the idea for the program from his college show choir and is “very amazed” by how much the program has grown. The first year the program consisted of eight to nine songs and has grown to include 20–25 songs.

“People want to be entertained but on top of that they want to hear the true meaning of Christmas,” Brand said, noting the addition of Santa was for the enjoyment of the children.

Pastor Richie Farrow said they hope the event continues to grow in the future.
