Hindu extremists attack Indian Christians

BANSWARA, India — Hindu extremists violently attacked Christians at a prayer meeting in India’s Rajasthan state at midnight Aug. 14, seriously injuring nine believers. The Christians were taking part in an all-night prayer vigil in a private home in Pathda village, Banswara district, near the border between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh states.

One of the assailants struck with an ax, and another tried to strangle a woman, damaging her vocal cords. Police are seeking seven people in connection with the incident — but attempts to obtain justice have already provoked a rampage by Hindu extremists.
