ATLANTA — On Aug. 1, Walter B. Shurden, minister at large of Mercer University in Macon, Ga., will step up to the role of interim executive director of the Baptist History & Heritage Society (BH&HS), following the retirement of current Executive Director Charles Deweese. Shurden, a prolific Baptist historian, is a longtime society member, having served as president (1975–1976) and a member of the editorial board and executive committee. In 2001, Shurden received the BH&HS Distinguished Service Award.
Kristopher Norris, a 2009 graduate of Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, also joins the BH&HS staff as office manager. Pamela R. Durso, associate executive director-treasurer, will step down to serve as interim treasurer as she transitions to become executive director of Baptist Women in Ministry on July 1.
