Horton’s Bethany Church celebrates 125 years

Many former members and pastors and visitors joined the congregation of Bethany Baptist Church, Horton, on Sept. 26 for a worship service celebrating its 125th anniversary.

The celebration at the Marshall Baptist Association church included special music and a presentation highlighting the beginnings of the congregation. Information about the church’s 13 original members was presented, along with pictures of their families through the years. Family members of those charter members were recognized.

A representative of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission was on hand to present the church with a framed certificate recognizing its years of service.

Former Pastor Dewayne White brought the message. There was a churchwide fellowship luncheon after the service.

As for Bethany Baptist’s plans for the future, Pastor Morris Stephens said, “We just want to continue to try to reach our community for Christ and be a lighthouse for Him.”
