Family Status: Widowed after 52 years of marriage to Jackson; two children, Linda and Carol; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren

After marrying her husband, who had just returned from the war in 1946, Grace Hubbard joined his home church, Shady Grove Baptist, Burnsville. Hubbard taught Sunday School for nearly every age group from 1950 until two years ago when arthritis caused her to resign. Currently she lives with her daughter in Midway, Ga. But after 60 years of membership, Hubbard attends services at Shady Grove whenever possible.

Q: When did you come to
know the Lord?
A: When I was 13 years old, I accepted Christ as my Savior, and I have lived for Him all these years.
Q: How has teaching Sunday
School affected you?
A: I hope it’s made me a better wife to my husband and mother to my children. We always made sure they went to church. From the time they were babies, they were carried to church, just like my mother and father carried me when I was a baby.
Q: How has church changed
over the years?
A: It just doesn’t seem like people are as dedicated as they used to be. People are not regular attendees. Some now just come when they feel like coming.
Q: How has your church family
supported you?
A: My husband died nine years ago. When I was living there alone, the church, friends and neighbors [were] so good to me. They still call and write me to tell me how much they miss me and to see how I’m doing. I just think they are great.
Q: What difference has being a
Christian made in your life?
A: It’s meant so much to me to be a Christian and realize what God wants me to do. Raising my family, I felt like He was right there with me.
