Larry Smith, adult pastor of Huffman Baptist Church, Birmingham, was honored May 20 during a reception celebrating his 25 years of ministry at the church.
Smith earned a degree in religion and church recreation from Samford University in Birmingham while serving as youth minister at Adamsville Baptist Church. He later completed his master’s degree in religious education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s extension center in Birmingham.
He served Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile, as minister of recreation and senior adults before arriving at Huffman Baptist in the same role. He later assumed the role of adult pastor at the church and has served in that capacity for about 10 years.
Though his positions have somewhat changed throughout his ministry service, one constant has remained — his ministry to senior adults. “I just love that ministry with them,” he shared.
Smith said one of the greatest blessings is when one has the opportunity to grow with people and build relationships like he has been able to do at Huffman Baptist. “It’s been a blessing to serve all those years,” he noted. “The 25 years at Huffman have been especially good.”
Smith and his wife, Linda, have three sons.
