Almost 47 years to the day he began his ministry, Hughie Denton will retire from the pastorate. March 4 will mark his last day as pastor of Bower Memorial Baptist Church, Evergreen, in Conecuh Baptist Association. The church will hold a reception in Denton’s honor Feb. 24, 2–4 p.m., and will present him with a gift of appreciation.
During his 11-year tenure at Bower Memorial Baptist, the church relocated and built a new facility. Called to preach March 6, 1960, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Montgomery, Denton served six other churches in southern Alabama during his ministry. He and his wife, Geraldine, will live in Monroeville upon his retirement, in a house built for them by members of the churches he served. Denton will be available for interim and pulpit supply work and may be contacted by e-mail at gerridenton@hotmail.com or by writing to 150 Kelly Circle, Monroeville, AL 36460.
