Contrary to the statement by Richard Land in the article “Biblical principles important for law on immigration” in the June 7 issue of The Alabama Baptist, the immigration reform legislation being considered by the Senate is a major step in the wrong direction.
If everyone in the world decided to ignore our immigration statutes and cross into this country, should they be welcomed or dealt with in accordance with the written laws of the land?
A corollary: if the nation is a vessel on the waters, is it incumbent upon its occupants to accept any and all boarders, even to the extent the vessel be compromised and possibly lost? Our mission should be to maintain the ship and exercise good stewardship over its resources as we endeavor saving those in need.
