I very much enjoy your newspaper. However, I feel I must write to clear up an error that was printed. Dennis Jernigan, the former homosexual, is mistaken in his thought that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. There is no textual evidence this is so. The person of Mary Magdalene is often mixed with those of Mary of Bethany and the sinner woman who anointed Jesus’ feet. Most people assume the “sinner” woman was a prostitute and therefore incorrectly make the conclusion that Mary Magdalene was that woman and therefore a prostitute. I resent this implication. She was a strong woman who was a good friend of Jesus. I feel that as the Baptist newspaper you should correct these mistakes and not let these myths be continued. I am happy that Mr. Jernigan’s life has been changed by our Lord and that he wants to share this with others. However, when you speak myths as fact you lose credibility in your witness.
