Interested in missions? Have a heart for Central and Eastern Europe? IMB conference is for you

Grace Community Church, Nashville, will host the International Mission Board’s Volunteer Summit for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) Nov. 8–9 and related events Nov. 8–10.

The free conference is ideal for Great Commission Christians who wish to discover specific ways they can help “tell the story of Jesus” to the peoples of the former Soviet Union and the entire region.
More than 20 CEE missionaries and missions leaders will introduce attendees to the region and cover the topics of praying strategically, using media skills on the missions field and volunteering through partnerships with missionaries.

Multiple breakouts throughout the summit will provide time for face-to-face discussion with summit speakers.
Mark Aderholt, Central Europe strategy associate, and other missionaries will discuss areas of specific needs for their region.

Related events include Students Reaching Students meetings Nov. 8 and an Accelerate Hope session that will occur alongside the summit as a time of training for individuals interested in becoming a virtual strategy coordinator (VSC). A VSC is responsible for developing strategies from home to reach people groups with no missionary presence.

Workshop options
On Nov. 10, related post-summit workshops will consist of Hope Communications, PrayFIRST, Reaching Roma and a special event.

During the Hope Communications workshop, those interested will learn how to use media skills to be on mission with God in CEE. Those who attend the PrayFIRST meeting will discover how to effectively pray by creating networks or connecting with existing ones and exploring valuable prayer resources. Reaching Roma will point attendees toward how to impact the “Gypsies” of CEE for Christ, while the special event will be a time to focus on and celebrate CEE missions.

All related events are free.
Through attending two summits, Marc and Kellye Hooks realized CEE has a need that matches their talents and calling. The Hookses currently are preparing to serve in Russia. “The [summit] can answer the questions people have about how they fit into the plan of God for the nations,” Kellye Hooks said. “Anyone who puts their tithe in the plate every week should attend and see how their money is being put to use — I think they’ll find it a very heartening, exciting experience.”

A second summit will be held in Arkansas on April 21–22, 2008.
