Mike Jackson was named the new director of the office of discipleship and family ministries by the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) during its Feb. 26 meeting at Lakeside Baptist Church, Birmingham.
Jackson, an associate in the office of evangelism, will assume his new role April 2, replacing Max Croft, who is retiring.
“Mike brings a wealth of experience to the new ministry assignment,” said Rick Lance, SBOM executive director. “Mike loves the local church, and his experience as a pastor underscores that assertion. He is a friend to pastors and deacons as well as other church leaders.
“His servant-oriented leadership style has already been well received by Alabama Baptists,” Lance added.
Prior to joining the evangelism office in September 2004, Jackson served as pastor of Eastside Baptist Church, Birmingham, for nearly 18 years. He was associate pastor and minister of youth at Southside Baptist Church, Southside, for about five years before that.
“As I make the transition, I will no doubt continue the partnership that the department has had with the evangelism office doing Intentional Evangelism over the last three years,” Jackson said. “One of the burdens or passions I have is for prayer and spiritual awakening in our churches — that we would have revival.”
His primary responsibilities will include prayer ministry leadership, church media library work and deacon ministry in addition to leading the office.
He holds a master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Jackson and his wife, Lyn, are the parents of three children, one of whom is deceased, and have two grandchildren. (TAB)
