TAMPA, Fla. — The Associated Press reported in early January that a jail deputy in the Tampa Bay area was suspended for refusing to stop praying with inmates. Last April authorities ordered Beverly Zebrowski to stop praying with inmates at the Hillsborough County Jail, saying being so close to prisoners posed a security risk. Zebrowski refused to comply with the order, saying it infringed on her religious freedoms.
She was suspended in December, and her firing was recommended. Zebrowski has since agreed to stop praying with inmates and signed an agreement acknowledging any future violation of the policy will get her fired.
