James (Jim) Neal McCord Sr., who served several Alabama Baptist churches, died July 9. He was 73.
McCord graduated from Ashville High School and was ordained July 5, 1981. His first church to serve as pastor was Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Ashville. He later served as pastor of Portersville Baptist Church, Collinsville; Chandler Mountain Baptist Church, Steele; Reeves Grove Baptist Church, Ashville; New Hopewell Baptist Church, Ashville; Steele Baptist Church; and Macedonia Baptist Church, Margaret. He also served as interim pastor of Damascus Baptist Church, Gadsden, and Ivalee Baptist Church, Attalla, where he was serving at the time of his death.
McCord served as the Sunday School director for St. Clair Baptist Association and also was a certified MasterLife instructor, a study produced by LifeWay Christian Resources.
He is survived by his wife, Ella; four children; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
