Jennifer Knapp Lay it down

Jennifer Knapp Lay it down

For Jennifer Knapp, the words “hope” and “submission” are not to be taken lightly. On her sophomore project, lay it down, Knapp reveals a growing knowledge of these terms. She recognizes the importance of submitting everything to God while resting in the hope of His promises. Knapp’s latest project, much like her successful debut album, Kansas, is an honest expression of God’s grace in spite of life’s circumstances.

Knapp’s music can be described as “alternative folk-rock,” much like that of secular artists like Sheryl Crow and Shawn Colvin, that is driven by a passion for God. The album’s title track expresses the need to lay down pride and turn to God. “You Remain” prayerfully proclaims “Though I am poor and needy/ My Shelter You’ll be/ Not by my merit/ Lead me to where You say.”

Lay it down is an album full of honesty and openness before God. Knapp continues to deal with the trials and triumphs she has faced along her Christian pilgrimage through her songs. Lay it down concludes by posing the thought “He is my Light and my Salvation/ Whom have I to fear?” Knapp passionately declares the faithfulness of God.
