Jerusalem Missions meets needs in Central Association

Around the first of every month members of First Baptist Church, Weogufka, send clothing and canned goods to Jerusalem Missions.

Jerusalem Missions, a ministry of Central Baptist Association, seeks to meet physical needs of the community by enabling congregations in the association to serve by providing needed items.

Started in 2003 by then director of missions John Marks, Jerusalem Missions serves as a central location for storing goods (clothing, nonperishable foods and hygiene items) and as a conduit for giving. When a needy family approaches a church in the association, the church then contacts Jerusalem Missions and the ministry gives the supplies to the church to give to the family.

Joyce Chambless, who helps organize the donations given to Jerusalem Missions from First, Weogufka, said the church has been a part of the ministry since it began. “We’re a missions-minded Baptist church and (we) like to help others,” said Chambless, who also serves as the church clerk at First, Weogufka.

And although First, Weogufka, is small in size with 15–20 attendees each Sunday, Chambless said the church plans to stay involved with the Central Association ministry in the future.

“We will continue to support Jerusalem Missions … we try to help with anything we can.”
