FRANKFURT, Germany—The German Soccer League of Frankfurt, Germany, has set up what one magazine calls an “Anti-Jesus” decree. According to Idea News Service, the league has tried to ban soccer players from displaying pro-Jesus messages on the field. During the last season, several players displayed messages such as “Jesus lives” after scoring goals during games. Christian media in Germany have been critical of the ruling, but Helmfried Riecker, director of a sports ministry, told Idea that such a ban would curtail other players’ displaying slogans supporting other religions. Riecker believes the ban will stop any “unwelcome reactions” from crowds who view the displays and disagree with them. However, other critics of the ban vehemently disagree, calling it an “exaggerated response”.
