SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — In the past 25 years, the “Jesus” film has had an impact on billions of people around the world. Now it’s making its formal debut on the Internet in hundreds of languages.
In 300 languages, the online version represents the languages of more than 90 percent of the world. That will help the Jesus Film Project meet the goal it’s always had: to bring Jesus near to where people live.
“Now with the Internet, ‘near to where they live’ is the closest computer,” said Mike Waid, the Jesus Film Project’s technology wiz. “(People) can not only watch the ‘Jesus’ film but interact with written content that would help them to understand more about Who Jesus is and His claims.”
Clyde Taber, who works on the massive project of putting hundreds of languages online, said he’s been amazed at how widespread Internet access is worldwide.
“From the beginning, our passion has been to present Christ in a language-specific way, to put the message of Christ in the heart language of listeners around the world,” he said. “Now, technology has given us new opportunities to reach people that we’ve never been able to reach.” (TAB)
