Jonny Diaz’s new self-titled CD is another solid effort. Perhaps not the most sophisticated record you’ll hear this year, but a fun, well-recorded collection of worship songs that will have you tapping your toe and air-drumming along, just like with his other records. As always, beautifully layered arrangements are the rule, and exceptional guitar work is always lurking just behind the moving rhythms. This record is a joy to listen to.

“Break My Heart” is one of the best; smoky, bluesy, with inspired guitar work and a great message. “God Is Watching” rocks with the best Diaz has offered, and does it with touching vignettes that will have you rewinding to listen again.

“Weeps for You” weaves a message of God’s compassion into an intricate acoustic vehicle. The CD’s first single, “Beauty of the Cross,” will certainly make its way into our local praise teams’ repertoire. Oh, and don’t miss “The Chick-fil-A Song.” Nashville pickin’ and big fun!
