Let It Fly
Centricity
Jonny Diaz released his first project for Centricity Records on April 18. This follows three critically acclaimed independent releases and two well-received projects for Fair Trade Services (formerly INO Records). Diaz wrote or co-wrote all songs on the new project, which was produced by Brent Milligan and Jeff Pardo.
For those who read my music reviews, it should be no surprise I’ve been a big fan of Diaz. His compelling acoustic pop, thought-provoking, Christ-centered lyrics and consistently excellent production values across everything he’s done place him in the top tier of contemporary Christian musicians.
“Let It Fly” gets its title from the opening song, “Use Me Too,” referring to David’s slingshot encounter with Goliath. It comes from Diaz’s own insecurities until he realized “I’m inadequate … and that’s perfect. You see, God has a habit of doing big things through inadequate (but willing) people. [David] said a prayer, looked to the sky, wound it up and let it fly. It was an inadequate offering. However, in God’s hands, it did something amazing.”
Something amazing is just what God has created through his inadequate (but willing) servant.
